Sex Secrets: What Do They Say About You?

Hi, I’m Gigi Engel. I’m a sex educator for Arousr, and today we’re going to be talking about sex and secrets because they are actually more linked than you might have guessed. So have you ever noticed that if you have a really strong sexual attraction to someone or a really strong romantic attraction to them, or you engage with them sexually and you have an incredible experience that sometimes you start sharing things about your past or your life where you probably wouldn’t had that not happened? It’s actually a really good explanation for why this happens. A 2017 study showed that we actually don’t need to know someone very well before we start revealing classified information if we have a very strong sexual attraction to them or experience sexual satisfaction with this person.

You might be asking, why does that happen? The reason this happens is that when you’re really sexually aroused or attracted to somebody, your brain gets flooded with this delicious cocktail of oxytocin and norepinephrine and dopamine, and these are really good feel good hormones. And so you start to have this sense of safety, this sense of pair bonding with the person you’re sleeping with or the person you’re attracted to. When that happens, your brain basically stops taking DMs from logic and you start to reveal things you might not have otherwise.

I feel like that’s just really cool and interesting, and the human brain is just an incredibly powerful thing. So if you’ve done this and you’ve revealed things about yourself and you’ve looked back and been like, “I really wish I hadn’t done that!”, don’t worry, we’ve all been there! So the more you know, right?
