Lots of men get advice from their dads, big brothers or trusted friends about certain points of manscaping. The major ones are like how to cut grass, trim weeds, and how to shave and maintain their facial hair. One piece of advice that guys usually don\u2019t share bro-to-bro is how to manscape their pubic hair. Because that would be awkward and TMI, right?<\/p>\n

Even though I don\u2019t own a penis and a set of balls, there are some things I can tell you. Particularly about manscaping: trimming, shaving and waxing pubic hair in general.<\/h3>\n

How much you want to trim, shave or wax is up to you \u2013 or maybe your partner has some suggestions. Some people think, \u201cEww! Totally bare! That\u2019s too freaky for me!\u201d while some women like it. I will tell you two things that I often hear from women:<\/p>\n

1. \u201cIf he wants me to shave or trim, I expect the same from him. It\u2019s totally fair.\u201d
\n2. \u201cI HATE getting hair stuck in my teeth when I go down on him!\u201d<\/p>\n

Also, shaving and trimming your pubic hair has some hygienic benefits. Your cock and balls get funky after a day of having them trapped in your pants all day, even if you wear boxers. Pubic hair adds to the stink factor since it absorbs smells. It\u2019s always a good idea to clean up before you get down and dirty, but sometimes that\u2019s not always possible when you\u2019re seizing the moment.<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s the reason why most men shave their pubes: when you clear the bush, the tree looks taller.<\/h3>\n

First of all, if you\u2019re clearing the bush for the first time, you\u2019ll want to trim down those hairs with a pair of blunt-tipped manicure scissors. You won\u2019t want to explain to your plumber or landlord why you have a completely backed-up drain. Also, razors and trimmers weren\u2019t made for clearing that kind of wildlife. It\u2019s like using an X-Acto knife to do the job of a gas-powered weed whacker.<\/p>\n

Also, use a cosmetic mirror that has a suction base that you can stick to the wall so you can see what you\u2019re doing.<\/h5>\n

Before you take a razor to your pubic area, use a good quality shave cream. Skip that foam crap in a can that you buy at the grocery or drug store. Having two boys, I\u2019ve borrowed their shaving creams when I\u2019ve been in a pinch. They rinse off as soon as the hits the spray from the shower and do a poor job of softening your skin and hair. I highly recommend using Kama Sutra\u2019s Intimate Caress Shave Cr\u00e8me. It\u2019s lotion that stays on your skin, even in the shower, and it goes on clear so you can see what you\u2019re doing. The lotion stays on and absorbs into your skin, keeping it soft and irritation-free. It\u2019s the best shave ever.<\/p>\n

Some guys swear by using shaving soap and a badger brush. They\u2019re great for your face, but not down below. The two of them together are breeding grounds for bacteria between shaves, especially if you use them for your facial hair. And you don\u2019t want to use the same soap and brush for your face and your groin. That\u2019s just plain nasty in terms of manscaping.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re using a razor, use a good quality disposable razor only once. Your short and curlies are probably thicker and tougher than the hair that grows on your face. The blades on a disposable razor will probably only stay sharp enough for just one shave. There\u2019s also the risk of them holding onto bacteria or unsuspected STI\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Pull the skin tight when you\u2019re shaving. You\u2019ll get a better shave and reduce the chance of getting cuts and nicks that can get infected and irritated when they\u2019re in warm and moist conditions. A disposable razor is perfectly acceptable for your shaft and anywhere on the groin region.<\/p>\n

Shaving the balls is another story. That skin is much too delicate and wrinkly for a razor. Use a trimmer. You don\u2019t have to use an expensive top-of-the line trimmer. When I got to visit the ShopInPrivate.com warehouse a few months ago, the owner and staff recommended using the Remington Travel Shaver. It\u2019s super cheap, about $17, and they test just about everything they sell. All it requires is a couple of AA batteries and a cleaner to use after you\u2019re done shaving.<\/h4>\n

Waxing your pubes will keep you hair-free for about 2-3 weeks, but it hurts. A lot. Even the some of the burliest men can\u2019t stand to get their hairs ripped out of their follicles several times over, or so an esthetician friend of mine has told me. If you decide to brave it, go to a professional in manscaping. It will be worth it. They have the equipment and experience to do it right. Home waxing kits just don\u2019t do the job. You\u2019ll be left with a lot of stray hairs wax on your skin. Once wax cools and hardens, which is almost instantly with home waxing kits, it\u2019s a bitch to take off.<\/p>\n

When you\u2019re done shaving, trimming and grooming, slather your skin with some aloe vera gel (not a hand or body lotion that has aloe vera in it). It’s crucial in manscaping to follow this. Aloe vera is a natural anti-inflammatory that will reduce the risk of irritation form cuts, nicks and ingrown hairs. It will also make your skin feel cool, comfy and soft. It<\/p>\n
