Sexting - The New Generation Of Phone Sex

In the beginning, we had jungle drums. "Thud thud bomp" meant "what are you wearing?", "Bomp bump thump thump" meant "you're making me so hot!" and "Bumpa-thud" meant "gotta hang up now, boss walked in."

This is how dance music evolved.

OK, so we're kidding. Erotic conversation over media really took off with "phone sex". Before that, it was just writing letters, which really did lead to the Victorian bodice-ripper genre. In the dinosaur days (go ask grandpa) there were "1-800" numbers, named after the prefix you'd use to dial them. They cost like sin, and then you'd be connected on a party line to eight or ten other people, and you could have private phone chats with members as well.

This actually worked, and it was right before the real Internet revolution came to pass. Before Microsoft became the world's big bad monopoly, we worried about things like AT&T. Telecommunications was the buzzword before the (don't retch) "Information Superhighway" was. It was all by voice, no pictures or video were on the horizon - in fact they wouldn't be for another 15 years.

Chat rooms and instant messaging had their turn as well. Text chats such as AIM and ICQ already had their advantages over phone chat; you don't have to worry about being overheard. Try to imagine how careful you'd have to be doing phone sex from, say, a dormitory. Now imagine trying to keep it on speaker-phone. Text chats are more discreet, and they also allow for more creativity and control of the circumstances. It's also safer for your identity; it's far easier to trace a phone number (at least a land line) to an address than it is to trace an email account or website username.

Without a doubt, sexting has become the next best thing to being there. With the addition of trading still images and video, plus having it on a handheld device, look for it to get more popular with every passing year!
